For the past 15 years I have been making quilts, but before that I was co-owner of a business that sewed quilt squares and original quilted designs to the fronts of sweatshirts that we sold at craft shows in the Houston area. I have taught classes at It’s A Stitch in Humble, TX and have since adapted and published some of the designs I created for those classes, like Road to Tokyo, Paddlewheel Stars, and Chicken for Dinner.

Over the years I have been a member of the Greater Houston Quilt Guild and am a long-standing member of the Kingwood Area Quilt Guild. I have been a member of two scrap bees and am currently a member of a contemporary bee called The Frayed Knots.

My name is Cathy Thomas, also known as Cat. I live in the beautiful Rocky Mountain state of Colorado and have four grown children and four grandchildren, including a precious little boy recently adopted from the earthquake ravaged country of Haiti. I enjoy reading, writing, cooking, and quilt making — especially reproduction quilts from the Civil War era and primitive designs with wool appliqué.

I have enjoyed piecing quilts for many years. The past eleven years, I have been a longarm machine quilter by profession. As any quilter will agree, it is the quilting that brings the quilt to life. In the countless hours I have spent ‘bringing quilts to life,’ I have developed a sincere appreciation for the story behind the quilt, whether it be traditional or abstract. I am intrigued by the picture and storyline the quilter has created through her use of color and design. I am privileged to be part of the overall result.

I began sewing as child and believe it was this experience that first began my interest in finding an outlet for expression of my creativity. Majoring in art in college, I continued to explore other avenues of creative expression through a variety of art forms. Painting, sculpting, hand-thrown pottery, all intertwined with continued expression through sewing and related mediums including tatting, crocheting, needlepoint, and making bobbin lace. I taught art for a couple of years and then returned to school to earn my nursing degree. After 28 wonderful years of nursing, including nine years of service in the U.S. Air Force, I decided to return to what I loved most.
And then it happened..... Attending a local quilt show, all I could think of were the gorgeous colored fabrics that created such beauty. A new medium for art! I signed up for a class by Roxene Powell, "Quilting For The Clueless", in which we learned both simple terminology and how to use the basic tools such as a rotary cutter and cutting mat. She was such an inspiration, as her love of quilting was so evident. My wonderful husband suggested I start by purchasing a long-arm machine. It was a great beginning as it was easier for me to do than the piecing which I found a little more difficult... Having purchased my long-arm machine, it became clear that the design and flow of freehand machine quilting had become my new brushstrokes, satisfying my need for creative expression. Less than a year later, I began Laurie Tigner Designs.

Since then, I have expanded into designing my own patterns, though I still continue to quilt for others as time allows. I very much look forward to continuing and expanding all aspects of my quilting and design work.

I hope you enjoy looking through my web site and wish you all the best in your quilting endeavors.

Patterns - Designer - Tims, Ricky
Ricky’s creative energy and talents can be seen clearly in his glorious contemporary quilts. His quilts are filled with striking colors and beautiful design lines. They flow with expressive movement, much like a symphony of color. He works with both contemporary piecing and appliqué.

Ricky’s love of quilting exploded in the early 1990s when he became captivated with contemporary quilt design. His beautiful visual creations have brought wide interest to his work, which subsequently resulted in Ricky teaching workshops. As a musical composer, arranger, conductor, and performer, Ricky is able to blend his love of quilts and music into a unique presentation of mindful inspiration, beautiful visions, and melodic sounds.

Ricky is the co-host of The Quilt Show, a webcast quilt program for quilters.
