Patterns - Designer - Falls, Sherri
Sherri began quilting in 1994. She enjoyed trying to put patterns together in different ways and experimented with designing her own patterns. In 2000, Sherri started a machine quilting business with her mother who owns a quilt store in scenic Waconia, MN. It was at that store that she met Eileen Taylor, designer of the Holly Taylor fabric line from Moda. Eileen encouraged Sherri to try creating patterns with her fabric and This & That Pattern Company was born.

Since 2004, Sherri has designed many patterns and a book for the Holly Taylor fabric lines. In addition, Sherri has designed charm patterns and other fun patterns for jelly rolls and layer cakes under the “Little Scraps” and “Breakfast Club” lines.

Welcome to my passion. I’m fascinated with creating new designs, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to share them with you. I am an applique and pieced-quilting pattern designer. Though I’ve only been quilting for about ten years, I’ve spent the last thirty years or so drawing, painting, and designing. When I was younger, I enjoyed drawing which led to painting ceramics. I was soon painting china which led to many years of painting wood and selling my items at craft shows.

I’d like to give my sister a lot of credit for always being there to teach me new things. And, Lord knows, I’m not easy to teach. It takes a significant amount of patience. My quilting adventures, as with most of my creative ventures, began with my sister begging me just to try it once. I had successfully evaded her pleas for several years, but finally gave in. And that, as they say, "is all she wrote".

Currently, I’m working to build a business out of my passion for creating new designs. As a result, here I am, working to build a website that will bring my designs to others through their local quilt shops. Please understand that I am in the initial stages of this venture so my current variety of patterns is small though I’m working hard to add new high-quality patterns to increase my inventory of products.

Debbie Field, of Granola Girl Designs fame, has become synonymous with Northwoods. She has a creative passion for capturing wildlife and outdoor scenes, and then incorporates them into quilts, which is enjoyed by quilters all over the world.

Dear Quilting Friends,

I am very lucky! I come from a family of outdoor enthusiasts.

Living an adventurous lifestyle of camping, hiking, skiing, kayaking, snowshoeing, and just plain enjoying the outdoors, is my passion in life. This lifestyle has inspired my many outdoor fabric lines, books, and patterns. When I am outdoors everything just seems to come together. Nature is my palette for artwork color and texture. Designing is an easy task for me. I pull from photos I have taken at places we’ve been and of family activities remembered. It is my way of capturing the beauty and contentment of the outdoors, which brings so much joy to my family. I’m sure you have heard of my signature saying:

“Take time for quilting and enjoy the outdoors. Life is full of memories. Make sure you have a nice place to keep them. Quilt it!”

Debbie Field

Patterns - Designer - Fields, Teresa
An Ohio native who now lives in Indiana, Teresa Fields has been designing her own quilts for many years. This energetic quiltmaker is extremely creative and has so many great ideas for new quilting projects that she will be busy designing for years to come. Teresa is a wonderful quilting teacher, passionately sharing her ideas and skills with others.

Teresa designed the Sole Cool Hot Iron Bag after she attempted to take a hot iron safely home in her car at the end of a workshop. She was determined to solve this dilemma before her next quilt outing. And, she did! Her hot iron bag has been a hot seller ever since its inception. After designing this bag, Quickie Chicks evolved—a pattern line featuring easy, interesting, and quick projects for quiltmakers and sewers. Her Snap, Grab, & Go bag is a fantastic tote that provides great versatility. Besides the tote, this pattern includes a bonus matching quilt pattern. Each year you’ll be pleased to know that Teresa will have some enticing project for you.

When I bought my first antique quilt at a garage sale (for $7), I fell in love with the art of quilting. But when I made my first simple quilt, I fell in love with the process of quilting. After that I was hooked! It was as if something inside of me had “clicked”. For me, quilting is a perfect combination of art and practicality. I can be totally creative and totally utilitarian at the same time, knowing that what I create is both beautiful and can be used to keep my kids warm!

Vintage quilts and unusual vintage color combinations seem to inspire most of my designs. I can’t seem to go anywhere without seeing patterns or color combinations for potential quilts--in nature, in greeting cards, in wrapping paper, or in dishware & pottery. My favorite quilts utilize a patchwork design that shows off the fabric and color. I am not drawn to complex quilt or pattern designs unless they truly showcase a fabric combination or palette in a way that another pattern would not.

I am a designer of quilts, fabrics and notions. But actually, I’m just a mom, taking care of this household and the people I love. I have a big crazy family with lots of comings and goings and a wonderful husband. We live in beautiful Utah, surrounded by the majestic Wasatch Mountains. We have seven kids, Five of whom are married, so that gives us 5 more, and we have 6 darling grandkids! I love to create with fabric. It is fulfilling to see my ideas become reality. My favorite designs combine piecing and applique. I love to share my quilting studio with you!
