Patterns - Designer - McClure Long, Bobbie
Bobbie comes from a long line of quilters and/or seamstresses and owns several family-made antique quilts. Making things has always been a part of her life. Beautiful clothes made for her by her mother and aunt were the norm, and quilts were on the beds of her home as she was growing up. Bobbie continued that tradition by making clothes for her daughters when they were young. As her kids grew up, they were surprised to learn that everyone’s mom didn’t do that. Even then, Bobbie’s best work was in the embellishments and details.

She has gone from asking if it was OK to have her quilt square look more like a rectangle than a square, to having quilts win multiple ribbons at regional quilt shows and travel with national exhibits. In addition, she enjoys photography, computer graphic arts, and painting, all of which she sometimes includes in her quilts.

She is happily married to her best friend, Tom. They live in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania with their granddog, Juno. Bobbie has four adult daughters; three sons-in-law; four adult stepsons; four stepdaughters-in-law; and between Bobbie and Tom they have twelve grandchildren.

I started designing quilts quite by accident in 2008. I found some fabric I just loved but could not find a pattern to go along with it. So I bought the fabric and took it home and designed and made a quilt. Some months later I designed a quilt for a raffle at a local quilt shop. The quilt shop owner wanted a written pattern so others could make the quilt also. After that the designs kept flowing. I have been published in 4 magazines (Quilt, Quilt Sampler, Quilting for Christmas and Fabric Trends).

Before I had my boys, I started designing sewing patterns as a hobby. In 2007, I began selling my patterns online. While I have less time to spend sewing (that season in life will return once I don’t have to change diapers and put little socks on wiggly feet) I do still design patterns. I’ve written two books, Sew Liberated and Growing Up Sew Liberated. I love simple, woodsy beauty in both pattern and fabric. I hope that rustic-chic aesthetic comes out in my designs.

Sheila McKay

Over 32 years ago she met and married a Mountain Man who also happens to be her best friend and knight in shining armor. She has two amazing daughters who are now married to wonderful young men – and- she has a new granddaughter that can light up a room with her smile. With an appetite for learning and trying new things she is constantly busy and loves to be out in nature where she can explore new places in God’s beautiful world. If it really is true that you’re as young as you feel – she will never grow old. She hearts: sewing, crafting, reading, traveling, hiking and photography.

Kira McKay Greenhalgh

As the wife and mother of, probably the most adorable family on earth, this lovely lady certainly has her hands full. But she still finds time to be incredibly creative, innovative, and down right amazing. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Biology but has always had a passion for everything artistic.

Aside from the greatest love of her life, her family, a few more things Kira hearts are: traveling, enjoying nature, interior design, sewing, digital scrapbooking, painting, drawing, photography and designing her very own creations.

Kayla McKay Conrad

Wife to the cutest, most wonderful man in the world, Kayla truly did find her perfect match. He supported her as she struggled through her final semesters at Brigham Young University to graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. What do you do with a Bachelor’s in Psychology you ask? No idea. Kayla has always loved the arts, so she also earned a minor in Visual Arts. She’s hoping to use the skills she gained in these classes to make her dreams of being a creative mastermind a reality. She hearts: reading, traveling, photography, graphic design, painting, and being creative (and if that doesn’t work out – hey, there’s always Psychology).

I graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. It was fun but I was tired of being broke so I decided to get a job. I worked briefly as an Exhibit designer for Museums in L.A. and when that became too quiet I relocated to the music industry. After about 6 years of that my ears began to bleed so I left California and went in search of a new home. The plan was to move as far east as I could get without renting a boat and work my way back west until I found a place I liked.

I now live in a small mid-western town where my closest neighbor is roughly four miles away. I have a cat that I never see and a lawn that requires more attention than the cat.

My main function in life is fabric design. I live for it. Through all of the moving and mind changing one thing was constant; fabric and sewing. I designed my first collection in my living room, after work and on weekends. The day I left my job in L.A. I sent it into Moda Fabrics and by the time I got to Albuquerque it was in production. A few years and several collections have passed since then.

Today I work with Free Spirit Fabrics designing not just for quilting but for a whole lifestyle of DIY-ers with a passion for saying things like “Hey. look what I made” or “don’t sit on that, it’s still wet”.

Seeing my name on that selvage was the only thing that had been missing from my professional life. So here I sit, an exiled rock princess on a throne of bolts and bobbins. This space is where I tell my story and share whatever there is to share about my world.

I’ve always loved to sew. Just put me in front of a sewing machine and I’ll create. My passion is to reach into the scrap bag and make something new, a bit different, to manipulate fabric, to make someone smile and say – that’s cool!
